    Title: IT Contractor/Senior Web Application Developer

    • Helped put together their Dogizm.com site.
    • Maintained the subversion repository and kept the 3rd-party libraries up to date.
    • Provided server admin support: set up the server on Amazon EC2 and added mount points via EBS; installed and configured Apache, PHP, and MySQL; and added Apache virtual hosts for the main and secondary sites (and several changed domain name iterations)

    Spidertel (May, 2008 - Jan, 2009)

    Title: Web Developer

    • Helped the development team manager put together a library of code to make website development easier for the design team.
    • Assessed the existing code and database structure for KCFoodGuide.com. Redesigned the database structure, removed layers of redundant tables, redesigned sections of the layout, and did most of the backend programming.
    • Worked on the web traffic system - a very old and highly modified version of phpTrafficA. Wrote several intricate SQL queries for the SEM department to try to help them verify the reports. As the modified phpTrafficA didn't track statistics correctly it was very difficult to get anything other than a rough guesstimate. Suggested we follow the advice of a previous developer and change to Piwik for tracking customer's site traffic.
    • Did some of the development for Occu-Tec's internal Project Management application.
    • Helped finish up several sections of Robinson's Delivery Services, Inc.'s internal Online Dispatch System application.
    • Did some of the development on JonesDevCo.com including the JavaScript map. The JavaScript pulled in a JSON object listing all of the properties and added pinpoints to the map. Initially they wanted each pinpoint to have a balloon listing property information, but it was determined that too many of the properties overlapped. Code was changed so that clicking on a state popped up a ballon listing all of the properties in that state.

    • Helped Junior Developers debug and work on various client sites including Grandma's Office Catering, CST Industries & CST Vulcan, Columbnian TecTank, B&W Trailer Hitches, and NDT Supply.

    Home Jewelry Business, LLC (Dec, 2007 - Jan, 2008)

    Title: IT Consultant

    • Determined that their main website being used had been badly developed and the server's resources were being used incorrectly.
      • The programmer who had developed the site was learning how to program and was very unfamiliar with what he was doing with PHP.
      • The multiple convoluted MySQL databases were not normalized or optimized. The MySQL server frequently ran at over 100% CPU utilization for hours on end.
      • The resources the server had were woefully lacking and had never been upgraded.
    • Suggested immediately replacing the inventory and shopping cart system with a pre-built system (commercial or otherwise). After that was accomplished we could determine whether to modify or custom build a new site from scratch.
    • Their secondary site - a web mall - was severely lacking in features.
      • Clients had issues creating their store front - this usually required programmer intervention.
      • Shoppers could only have 1 item in their cart. If they wanted to buy 5 items they would have to create 5 separate orders.
      • It had no concept of quantity. If a client only had 1 of an item and 5 shoppers bought 1, then 4 refunds would be required.

    • Helped convert MS SQL server SQL statements to be compatible with MySQL server in several coldfusion websites.

    • Built a PHP class to handle uploads & downloads to Amazon S3 using the curl binary in order to handle large files (such as videos).

    Healthcare Administration Technologies (XPACK Network Services), purchased by PNC bank (Feb, 2007 - Aug, 2007)

    Title: Web Developer

    • Certified to handle HIPAA data for the bank.
    • Designed and developed customized, dynamic web views using PHP 5, Smarty 2.6, CSS 2, and JavaScript, these views were populated using the MVC structure and interacted with an Oracle 10 database.
    • Initially developed UI in Firefox. Verified it to work with IE 5, IE 5.5, IE 6, Opera, and Safari.

    Technological Fluency Institute (TFI), a division of Pitsco (May, 2005 - Jan, 2006)

    Title: PHP Programmer

    • Developed a Computer Assessment in which the user is presented with a Windows XP environment & given a set of tasks they are supposed to accomplish. The entire Windows XP environment including applications & tasks completed was developed utilizing DHTML (JavaScript, CSS, & HTML) with PHP & MySQL handling the backend of storing the results.
    • Re-wrote massive amounts of code from the original Windows 95 assessment into re-useable components for the Windows XP assessment. The Windows 95 assessment suffered from redundant code and graphics. Rather than using external javascript and css files (reused in each assessment) each assessment was built into a single PHP file. The graphics used had been optimized for the web, but the problem was each assessment had it's own set of graphics - basic things such as a desktop icon would be downloaded each time from a different location. The Windows XP version focused on creating re-useable objects & graphics so there was as little redundancy as possible. The graphics were designed for re-use so a desktop icon would be downloaded once and used in multiple assessments.
    • Made modifications to the X library’s (http://cross-browser.com/x/lib/view.php) xEnableDrag function to allow for right click events. Windows has a lot of right click events and these needed to be simulated via JavaScript. Because of the differences in the way browsers define which mouse button is pressed, the application was required to work with the major browsers - Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox, & Opera.
    • Worked with other developers on ideas for utilizing AJAX, the X Library (http://cross-browser.com/x/lib/view.php), JavaScript inheritance and remedial JavaScript functionality (as discussed on Douglas Crockford’s Wrrrld Wide Web - http://www.crockford.com/) among other things in their projects for Pitsco. We also went over ideas for dealing with JavaScript leaks in Internet Explorer.

    Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Kansas City (May, 2003 - Feb, 2005)

    Title: IT Consultant

    • Took HIPAA training course.
    • Helped put together technical specifications (tech specs) for part 1 of the compliance updates being made to the internal application renewal program.
    • Converted the tech specs for part 2 (Compliance Engine) of the updates into a test harness that was used by the development team to write the software.
    • Built the tech specs for part 3 (Reports) of the updates as a test harness as well as designing the HTML interfaces that were implemented by the developers into the application. JavaScript was used to define and show the needed functionality for the developers, the final product, however, had barely changed the original JavaScript.

    • Converted the test harness created for part 2 into a testing tool for debugging of calculations. Created links to the applications database to import data into the testing environment.
    • Helped with testing and debugging of the delivered application as well as providing possible fixes. Several complex SQL statements needed to be rewritten to provide the correct functionality.

    TNT Logistics (Jun, 2002 - Aug, 2002; Dec, 2002 - Feb, 2003)

    • Developed an Access database for the Kansas City Ford re-sequencing warehouse to print overflow labels as required.

    GEAR for Sports (Dec, 2001)

    • Added some functionality to the production line’s Access application. Their Access application allows them to track material usage and employee time on the production line.

    Wizards of the Coast (WotC) (1996 - 2000)

    Title: Volunteer

    • Worked as a volunteer chat host (channel op) for TSR in 1996, through the buy-out by Wizards of the Coast in 1997, and stopped being a chat host in 2000.
    • Created a web application for the online community to keep track of online campaigns (gaming groups). It allowed users to reserve a chat room for their gaming sessions. It also allowed users to search for groups with openings.

    Other Projects - Unnamed Companies

    • Developed an article database in ASP for company announcements.
    • Created an internal “Wanted Ads” for a company that wanted to take that section out of the company news letter.

    Personal Projects

    • Created an application in BASIC for storing information about Antiques & Collectibles.
    • 1998 - Wallpaper Changer - would change the desktop’s wallpaper after a timed event to another picture in an array (all handled via javascript).
    • 1999 - Anti-Bot - created a small javascript application that would take a persons email address & convert it into hex values, fooling early email harvesting bots, but would continue to work with no modification under most browsers.
    • 2002-2005 - Developed all of the NWScript code utilized, defined and populated a couple of the zones, and hosted the Neverwinter Nights multiplayer module the Fireside Inn on a linux server. Utilized the NWNX2 - Neverwinter Nights Extender (originally available here - APS/NWNX2) software in the module to allow connections to external applications. This allowed game persistance via a MySQL database as well as some game features controlled by external AI bots.
    • 2006-2007 - Developed some integrated web applications for players of Eve-Online (http://www.eve-online.com/) that can be used via the In-Game Browser (IGB) that supports HTML 3.2 as well as some CSS, but no JavaScript. When players visit via a normal web browser the web applications will have some extended features available to them. Specifically developing some applications for miners & producers, starchart information, and possibly something to help determine better trade routes/items for trade.
    • Dec, 2006-2007 - Working on a 'WebOS' or web desktop <http://whitelionsoft.com/projects/webos/main>. This was inspired by what I worked on when I was at TFI, but will be different. It is not a testing environment.
    • 2007 - Put together a Color Picker App <http://whitelionsoft.com/projects/colors/main> that currently pulls color schemes from Firewheel Design’s ColorBurn widget and allows someone to get a quick idea as to how the color scheme will look on a webpage.
    • 2008 - Updated and added to the PHP, HTML, and phpDoc Code Templates for the PHPEclipse project.
    • Currently maintaining 2 home networks
      • Personal - consists of 7 computers including a firewall/router, 2 servers (file/test server & MythTV backend), desktop w/ dual-monitors (running linux), MythTV frontend, triple-boot MacBook Pro (MacOSX, Linux, Windows), & a portable dual-boot Shuttle (Windows for gaming/Linux for demonstrations).
